oca gallery

The oca gallery berlin is pleased to announce the opening of its new gallery in Berlin at Potsdamer Straße 53-55 on 24th May 2012. OCA stands for Optophon Contemporary Art. The oca gallery programme focuses on outstanding examples of contemporary art from central Germany and particularly on artists who are connected to the Federal State of Thuringia. This localisation should not be seen as dogmatic, but as an attempt to create awareness about an undiscovered spot on the map of current artistic regions from an objective view point.

In addition to this “geographic” emphasis the oca gallery berlin will present new aspects of the visual arts, artistic works at the interface of the various disciplines such as theatre/film/performance/ installation as well as theme-related and photographic perspectives.

The founder and director of the oca gallery berlin which is based in Erfurt is Reinhard Franz. Franz, born 1959 has been a lecturer in experimental television art at the Bauhaus University in Weimar since 1994. In 1992 he initiated and lead the official television-art project of documenta IX “Let there be TV” as well as “Worldhaus TV” during “Weimar 99”, the European Capital of Culture for 1999. As early as 1978 he founded one of the first galleries for photographic art in Germany in his home town of Hanau near Frankfurt. He ran this gallery for over five years.
