oqbo | space for image word and sound is an artist-run gallery in Berlin. The co-organizers are Michael Bause, Painting // Interactive Projects // Christian Bilger, Sculpture // Frank Eltner, Sculpture // Dirk Lebahn, Graphic Design // Serpahina Lenz, Sculpture // Art in Public Spaces // Julia Ziegler, Painting.

oqbo wants to shake, move, evolve with art, wants to bring art into open conversations and into the public sphere, wants the community to have a look, and to buy – in the end, everyone benefits. On display will be participants of Documenta, such as the Canadian Inuit Anni Pootoogook, as well as young graduates of various art academies. Readings by authors of such renown as the Bachmann Prizewinners Jan Peter Brehmer and Sandra Kellein have also taken place at oqbo. Many publishing companies have hence grown exceedingly interested in our endeavors, for example the Matthes & Seitz and the Kookbooks Verlag, who host their book releases here at oqbo.

The first exhibit to take place in the gallery at Brunnenstraße 63 was „Paperfile#1“ in the spring of 2008. Paperfile is the name for a versatile and expanding collection of highly valuable and works on paper of great quality, presented in portfolios from a file cabinet. This treasure trove of sorts holds a variety of works from 100 artists, including drawings, cutouts, paintings, and photos. The diverse assortment of positions and ideas, experiments and experiences, are waiting to be discovered.
Paperlfile is a central element of oqbo. The event invites those with curious minds to independently explore the holdings of two file cabinets; selected works on paper by 100 artists. Oqbo provides you with the opportunity to choose works from the drawers and, with white handgloves, personally examine and interact with them, devoting as much time to the works as you see fit. Die Galerie oqbo // raum für bild wort und ton ist eine Produzentengalerie in Berlin. Die Initiatoren sind Michael Bause, Malerei // interaktive Projekte // Christian Bilger, Bildhauerei // Frank Eltner, Bildhauerei // Dirk Lebahn, Grafik // Seraphina Lenz, Skulptur // Kunst im Stadtraum, Partizipation und Julia Ziegler, Malerei.

oqbo will mit Kunst bewegen, will Kunst ins Gespräch und unter die Leute bringen, zum Schauen und Kaufen – letztlich nützt das allen. Gezeigt werden sowohl Documenta Teilnehmer wie die kanadische Inuit Anni Pootoogook, internationale Künstler_Innen als auch Absolventen der Kunstakademien. Gelesen haben sowohl die Bachmannpreisträger Jan Peter Brehmer und Sandra Kellein als auch Manuela Runge aus ihrem Erstlingsroman. So wuchs auch das Interesse verschiedener Verlage an unserer Arbeit.

Im Frühjahr 2008 fand mit paperfile #1 die erste Ausstellung in den Galerieräumen in der Brunnenstraße 63 in Berlin statt. paperfile ist der Name für ein bewegliches und wachsendes Angebot hochwertiger Arbeiten auf Papier, präsentiert in Mappen in einem Papierschrank. Mittlerweile befinden sich Arbeiten von 100 Künstlerinnen und Künstlern in diesem Schrank: Zeichnungen, Cutouts, Malerei auf Papier und Fotografien, ein vielfältiger Schatz von Positionen, die Erfahrung und Experimentierlust gleichermaßen beinhalten.

paperfile ist für oqbo ein zentrales Element. Zwei Papierschränke, angefüllt mit ausgewählten Papierarbeiten von mittlerweile 100 Künstlern, laden Neugierige ein sich selbst zu bedienen.
Dazu möchte oqbo Ihnen die Arbeiten in die Hand geben. Mit weißen Schutzhandschuhen haben Sie die Möglichkeit Arbeiten aus den Schubladen der Papierschränke zu nehmen und zu betrachten.
Sie nähern sich dem Kunstwerk ganz persönlich, können sich ihm
nach eigenem Maß zeitlich und förmlich widmen. oqbo schafft hier die Voraussetzung für eine unmittelbare Wahrnehmungsqualität in der Begegnung mit dem einzelnen Kunstwerk.
