26. bis 28. Juni 2015 Jahresthema 2015: S.O.S. – Kunst rettet die Welt – Art saves the world

48 STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN ist ein Forum für künstlerische Projekte aller Sparten der Berliner Kunstszene. Das Festival präsentiert und fördert Kunst, die einen Beitrag zur Diskussion aktueller gesellschaftlicher Themen leistet und diese reflektiert. Seit der Gründung 1999 hat sich 48 STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN mit seinem Vorbildcharakter als Berlins größtes freies Kunstfestival etabliert. Die hier entstandenen künstlerischen Arbeiten wirken als Impulse weit über Berlin-Neukölln hinaus, beziehen Stellung zu gesamtgesellschaftlichen Fragen und fördern einen nachhaltigen Austausch mit der internationalen Kunstszene.

2015 steht das Kunstfestival unter dem Jahresthema „S.O.S. – Kunst rettet die Welt“. Gemeinsam mit Berliner und internationalen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern stellt das Festival Fragen unter anderem zur Aufgabe der Kunst in der Gesellschaft und thematisiert die Ansprüche und Anforderungen, mit denen sich Künstler konfrontiert sehen. Der Titel greift dabei bewusst ein Dilemma auf: Einerseits fordern aktuelle Themen häufig zu einer künstlerischen Positionierung heraus, andererseits kann der gesellschaftliche Auftrag, mit ihrer Kunst – überspitzt gesagt – die Welt zu retten, für Künstler schnell eine Überforderung bedeuten.

Das „künstlerische Labor“ Nord-Neukölln bietet ideale Voraussetzungen für eine derartige Auseinandersetzung, denn hier hat sich in den letzten Jahren – nicht zuletzt dank 48STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN – eine lebendige und vielseitige internationale Kunstszene entwickelt. Auch 2015 werden interdisziplinäre Experimente zur Bewerbung aufgefordert, wenn diese inhaltlich wie formal über Genregrenzen hinausweisen.

Das Festival fängt am Freitag, 26. Juni um 19 Uhr an und endet am Sonntag, 28. Juni um 19 Uhr

48 STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN is a forum for artistic projects from the manifold art scene in Berlin today, presenting art dealing with societal issues. Since the festival was established in 1999, 48 STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN has become the largest festival of the arts in Berlin. Works of art that have been realised here serve as beacons beyond the limits of the district, dealing with issues in society as a whole, as well as facilitating interaction between artists, both here and internationally.

The annual theme in 2015 is "S.O.S. – Art saves the world"
In 2015, the festival will delve into the theme of "S.O.S. – Art saves the world". In co¬operation with both Berlin-based and international artists, the festival intends to focus on the question of what the role of art in society today really is as well as dealing with the expectations and challenges that society confronts artists with. The title consciously confronts a widespread dilemma: on the one hand, the trend towards dealing with themes in an art context often poses a challenge to artists, demanding that they deal with issues affecting society today. It can also, however, be a manifestation of the idea that, to put it in its most extreme form, art should save the world from all of its problems, which is a rather unreasonable demand to make of anybody.

Northern Neukölln provides many an ideal setting for investigating these ideas. In recent years, partly due to activities that had to do with 48 STUNDEN NEUKÖLLN, a lively and diverse international art scene has established itself in the area. Obviously, the festival in 2015 will continue to provide a forum for interdisciplinary artistic experimentation, which we hope to see in applications to participate, inspiring project ideas that span both formal limits and genres.
