Curated by C.C. O’Hanlon
WHITECONCEPTS Gallery, Berlin September 1 + September 2, 2017
WHITECONCEPTS presents a two-day exhibition and sale of photography, painting, sculpture, unusual books, and artefacts curated by C.C. O’Hanlon, including works by Peter Beard, Cecil Beaton, Robert Graham, Robert Brennan, Sir Richard Francis Burton and others.
A well-known Australian traveller, diarist and lebenskünstler, C.C. O’Hanlon has never had a sense of place, of belonging, anywhere. Over the past 50 years, he has created wayward, temporary contexts for his life in scores of houses, apartments, hotel rooms and even boats all over the world, populating each with eclectic collections of art, books, and artefacts that, as he puts it, “attach themselves to me, like barnacles and algae to the hull of a ship, as I wander”.
This exhibition is, in part, an intriguing narrative of O’Hanlon’s peripatetic inclinations as well as his random curiosities and acquaintances. It is also a coda to his unusual life, although the offering of these works for sale might suggest that his inclinations haven’t waned and he is hoping just to travel lighter in the future.
Opening Friday, 1st September, at 18.30. Closes 5pm on Saturday, 2nd September. WHITECONCEPTS Gallery, Auguststraße 35, 10119, Berlin, Tel. 0177 7878578.
