Aiko Tsukahara / Architecture Specimen at Showroom Berliini on Berlin Art Grid

Opening Aiko Tsukahara / Architecture Specimen

Artists: aiko tsukahara
Genres: sculptural installation

Aiko Tsukahara is interested in space and installation-based sculpture, text, time and the consistence of material. Her installations and sculpture often include an optical illusion, a conceptual paradox or a question of the very existence of the reality around us. Philosophy and wit are an essential part of the minimalistic style of Tsukahara`s art. Beautifully carved and installed, her artwork goes beyond aesthetics and asks what is behind the conception of space as we perceive it. Aiko Tsukahara`s playfully engaging works flirt with aesthetics and optical theory. They encapsulate ideas into new forms that intrigue thinking, both in relation to Western and Eastern Asian art history. Form and content, often conceived as separate entities in the theory of art, are one in Tsukahara`s subtle work.

Minerals often crystallize in geometric shapes and grow in clusters as if they were underground architecture within the planet. Architecture specimen is a structural experiment of nature-made and man-made in the format of architectural model.
