CRT monochromes is the inaugural exhibition of California based artist Baby Rollins and New York writer Art F. Cummings. The duo met many years post their artistic heydays (the 80’s and 30’s, respectively), while stopping over for a rest from time traveling at the Narita International Airport, in Tokyo, Japan, 2005. Cummings brushed shoulders with Rollins in the line for the water fountain, Rollins responding with a “hey-- watch it, mister.” And the rest is art history.
Where Cummings brings his classic analog musings, Rollins matches him with her more developed, yet still dated, technology. The exhibition results from the creative residues of their respective peak eras.
CRT monochromes addresses the boredom, pondering, and fear of the void of being obsolete and counteracts these self-conscious concepts with an enthusiastic comeback to the art world.
