"The State of the World Through Still Life Pictures"

LiTE-HAUS welcomes Miami-based photographer George A. Gonzalez whose use of small figures to stage political scenarios results in vivid and provocative reflections on global affairs. Gonzalez is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Miami in the U.S.A., an author, and photographer. His photography is inspired by global politics - or more accurately, the crises that underlay the world today. Gonzalez uses toys and small props to create scenes of power, greed, aggression, and conflict. His photos of these objects and scenes - exhibited in large scale – encourage the viewer to ponder the political subject matter and perhaps choose sides. Much of the imagery is about oil and power. Gonzalez feels the global ecology is in grave jeopardy, and that the only answer lies in internationalism: the idea that humanity is a brotherhood and sisterhood. Gonzalez's area of research specialization is U.S. environmental politics and policy. He recently embarked on a research agenda in the field of political theory and popular culture. Gonzalez comments on international relations, justice, pragmatism, ethics, and the American left.

Gonzalez will discuss his work during an artist talk on July 30th at 6:00pm in Room 1 ending at 7:00pm for his Finnisage.
