Galerija Gregor Podnar freut sich, während des Gallery Weekend Berlin 2016, die erste Einzelausstellung mit Werken von Julije KNIFER präsentieren zu können.
Julije Knifer (1924-2004) gilt als ein bedeutender Künstler der Konkreten Kunst nach 1945. Seine Mäander wurden unterschiedlich interpretiert, abhängig von der Zeit in der sie entstanden sind, zunächst im Kontext von geometrischer Abstraktion und im Neo-Konstruktivismus der Neuen Tendenzen der 1960er Jahre, später aufgrund ihrer Askese und dem Interesse für das Absurde auch im Kontext der Anti-Kunst der Neo-Avantgarde.
Die Ausstellung Elements präsentiert eine Auswahl an Werken in unterschiedlichen Medien, die die Bedeutung des Prozesses hervorheben. Seine scheinbar einfache, starre Arbeit (im formellen Sinn) ist die Folge seiner Denkprozesse und kontinuierlichen Anstrengung in Skizzen und Schriften. In Notes von 1977 beschreibt er seine Absichten und Verfahren im Detail. Obwohl seine Aussagen sehr direkt und kategorisch sind, lassen diese eine gewisse Absurdität und Mehrdeutigkeit zu.

For the upcoming Gallery Weekend Berlin 2016 Galerija Gregor Podnar is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of works by Julije KNIFER.
Julije Knifer (1924–2004) is recognized as one of the most prominent artists related to Concrete Art after 1945. His meanders are interpreted differently depending on the period in which they appeared: first in the context of geometric abstractions and neo-constructivism of the New Tendencies of the 1960s and with their asceticism and interest for the absurd present in the context of anti-art of the neo-avantgard.
The Exhibition Elements presents a selection of artworks in different media that emphasise the importance of process that can be seen through various aspects of Julije Knifer´s work. Apparently simple, rigid work (in the formal sense) is the consequence of the artist’s thought processes and continuous efforts in sketches and writings. In 1977 Notes Knifer describes his intentions and procedures in detail. Although his statements are very direct and categorical, there is plenty of absurdity and ambiguity.
