Artists: kristof kintera
Genres: Installation, Concept Art, contemporary art

On the occasion of Gallery Weekend Jiri Svestka Berlin is pleased to announce the next exhibition with latest works by the successful Czech artist Kristof Kintera (*1973) entitled "Bad News".

Kristof Kinteras sculptures are humorous allusions in object-shape. Through the misappropriation and recontextualization of different, often recycled materials, the artist constructs a correlation beyond their proper usage. He brings metabolic figures to life, whose genesis is based on extremely fragile and elaborately detailed mechanic experiments. Central for the current presentation at Jiri Svestka Berlin is one result of this approach. The exhibition’s eponymous artwork “Bad News”, a frightening, devil-like creature, with intensive presence that persistently captures the viewer’s attention. Accompanied with drum-rolls the hybrid announces negative headlines, which roar through a timeworn ghetto blaster and are of no good promises.

Joke and sarcasm, amusement with forms of sensitive perception, and social issues turn into metaphoric vehicles for Kintera’s installations. The highly technical objects construct a parallel universe of nonsense, where title and work are strongly related, thus evoking further associations and mind games.

In summer 2014 the Jean Tinguely Museum in Basel dedicates an institutional solo show to Kintera’s work – a midcareer-retrospective.
