builds exhibition for SUOMESTA galleria

Markku Pätilä
born in Tampere 1948
lived long periods in several countries
lives at the moment in Helsinki

Freelancer artist

Studied art in Boston School of Museum of Fine Arts
and in Hochschule für angewandte Kunst in Vienna
took apart in several solo and group Exhibitions in Finland and aboard
has numerous works in both private and state collections in Europa

Freelancer production designer

has designed sets for over 40 films and television series
long time collaborator for Aki Kaurismäki films including
Oscar nominated film Man without Past
has been nominated five times for Jussi Award for best
Production design in Finland
has nominated for best Production design In Europa ( EFA )
has designed also sets for theater, dance and opera.

i will never analyze my pictures.
trying to do so it feels odd and at least absurd.
when the process begins it all happens very fast.
i consider nothing
i think of nothing
i am as a matter of fact nothing.
or just a thin and translucent plane between the paper and the image.
and when everything is over I feel only emptiness
which immediately must be filled with something that is normal.
to cut wood always does the trick

ich kann nie meine Bilder analysieren.
ich finde es sowieso völlig absurd.
wenn Prozess beginnt, passiert alles sehr schnell.
ich überlege nichts.
ich denke nichts.
ich bin eigentlich nichts.
oder vielleicht nur etwas dünnes und durchlässiges.
zwischen Blatt Papier und Image
wenn das Alles vorbei ist kommt in mir eine grosse Leere
die ich dann geschwind mit etwas Normales erfüllen muss
