ÉphémèreBerlin in collaboration with cogalleries is proud to present the work of artist Sven Ballenthin 'Identity is a Choice' series.

Sven is a Berlin-based artist, who has been working on his 'Identity is a choice' series since 2013. His initial inspiration for the series was born out of his interest in beauty and the question behind 'what is beauty?'. After a brief study at the Berlin University of the Arts he became frustrated with the constrictions of a conventional education system. He questioned how can one find themself or their style, when everything around you is a constant influence. So, he decided the only way is to go the opposite direction and reduce everything to very small pieces. Just 1 size, just 1 subject, just 2 colors, just black and white, and just 1 day for a painting. These were the ingredients, the essence of reduction. Reduction of himself, reduction of the material, reduction of time, reduction of the subject. That was the starting point to let the 'Series' born out of itself without the influences from outside.

Since then, this series 'Identity is a Choice' has led him to gain international recognition. Not only has his work been featured in prestigious art blogs, television and press, his success has spread in the world of fashion. He is currently working on multiple projects with model Shaun Ross and fashion designer, Nina Athanasiou. He also has upcoming exhibitions in New York, Miami and Los Angeles for Spring/Summer 2017.
