Things Take Time at The Wand on Berlin Art Grid

Opening Things Take Time

Artists: anna-katarina gravgaard, william wheeler
Genres: Photography, coloring contest, journalism, drawing

October 14th from 14:00 – 18:00, the project room, The Wand will open its exhibition and drawing contest entitled, Things Take Time. The show will feature the photographs and text of political and environmental journalists Anna-Katarina Gravgaard and William Wheeler. In tandem with their journalistic work, Gravgaard and Wheeler will display their photographs documenting: Libya post-Qaddafi; clean water access in India; the
fraught benefits and drawbacks of mining in Colombia; and Haiti’s reconstruction after the most recent earthquake or as Wheeler describes it on the Pulitzer Center’s website, “the worst urban disaster in modern history.”

This project will be a blend between educational outreach and a review of some of the most newsworthy global concerns to date. Illustrative line drawings will be made from the photographs for a coloring contest supporting the community of Alt Moabit and its local children. Thus, we are putting out a call to the local and neighboring schools and inviting them to attend an hour-long visit to The Wand during the week following the opening of THE BIG DRAW BERLIN, Oct. 15th – 19th to hear a short talk about each of the photographs and then participate in the drawing contest. Anyone can participate in the drawing contest but winners must be ages 8-10. Participating contestants can show their work at The Wand and three winners will be featured on the billboard outside of The Wand.
