Opening Zig - Zak
The Gallery Jordan/Seydoux is very pleased to present the group exhibition “Zig-Zak” consisting of works by seventeen young talents from the Klasse Burdass. Gina Burdass is a painter from London. She has been a professor of Painting and Drawing at the UdK (Fine Arts University) since 2012.
Klasse Burdass is a truly international group. The students come from all parts of the world, such as China, Norway, Russia, Japan, Ireland, Italy, and of course Germany. The students’ diverse cultural influences as well as their uniqueness are reflected in their work.
Together Klasse Burdass has explored a world of ideas and emotions, criss-crossing from East to West, from North to South, from real to abstract. And through all the ups and downs, agreements and disagreements and tears and laughter along the way, these young artists have influenced and inspired each other, yet remained fiercely individual.
Creative thinking is seldom linear and neither is an artist’s development. That’s why the participants chose to call their exhibition Zig-Zak. The name sums up the process experienced by each of them. And the outcome is reflected in their work.
The exhibition shows works of various artistic genres, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. The art objects vary not only by their different technical processes but also by the use of different materials, such as concrete, plasticine, tape, thread, acrylic, etc. However, as different as the works are in their execution, they are similar in their subject matter. Man in relation to his environment and the analysis of the world are central themes that unite the works. Thus the works position themselves between reality and fiction, illusion and truth, emotion and reason, materiality and dematerialization.
