Aktionsforum Shift is proud to host a one night only joint photographic exhibition by Johi von Bruises and Byron Afshar. The exhibition aptly titled ‘111213’ chronicles life in Berlin’s underground avant garde scene from 2011 – 2013. The exhibition will open Friday, April 5, 2013 at 19:30.
Through the photography one can assess the evolution of the lives, work and personal growth of the artists. From high-lights to coming downs and all that is in between the artists would like to invite you into their personal diary. The analog quality of the images will be starkly contrasted by the digital projection of which the works are displayed.
To create a multi-sensory experience, Byron Afshar will perform live two short experimental music pieces composed respectively in 2007 and 2013. Both compositions are based upon the same haunting recording of a female voice.
About the Artists:
Johi von Bruises is a German photographer residing in Berlin. She works strictly in the analog style to express her penchant for nostalgia. von Bruises studied photography in both Berlin and London. Since moving back to her beloved hometown two years ago, she has been cataloguing the insight of an original Berliner through her lens in her photographic diary.
Byron Reza Afshar is a Swiss-American multidisciplinary artist working primarily with the mediums of photography and sound art. Afshar is currently living and working in Berlin, while studying photography at the Neue Schule fuer Fotografie Berlin. His oft haunting work captures the true essence of his subjects. A sampling of Afshar’s most recent photographic work can be found at www.byronreza.tumblr.com.
About the Venue:
Located in the same Vattenfall power plant as the iconic super club Tresor, Aktionsforum Shift has quickly risen to prominence as one of Berlin’s premiere cultural venues showcasing underground and outsider art. Since its inception in early 2013, Art Director and Founder Leon Ludwig Barth has created a world class venue for fostering young and emerging artists of all mediums currently creating in Berlin.
