“A GALLERINA’S DREAM (WORING TITLE)” STEFAN PANHANS & ANDREA WINKLER OPENING: 16 MARCH 2017, 7 PM 17 MARCH – 30 APRIL 2017
Curated by Celina Basra
“A GALLERINA’S DREAM (WORKING TITLE)”, with Stefan Panhans and Andrea Winkler, suggests impulses for contemporary realities of work, art and exhibition production.
With this film, Stefan Panhans creates social spaces of a communication culture of self-presentation. His protagonists appear to be unified between human, image and avatar in living environments ingrained with hypermedia; overwhelmed consumers and lone wolves who move through gyms, high-speed train compartments, and talent shows.
Andrea Winkler works with objects of acceleration and transit debris, which are transformed through the centrifuge of digital reality. In pointed, controlled gestures, she constructs set designs for a world of commodity fetishism and, with Stefan Panhans, conceptualizes a display architecture for the exhibition that blocks the gaze rather than facilitating it.
The workplace “gallery” is representative and public. We act on a stage; we are entertainers, emcees, and directors. Space, time, and financial resources influence the actions of inviting and showing, attention, exclusion, and control. How do we want to work, and represent work? Who comes inside, who remains outside? And how much do you actually earn here? “A GALLERINA’S DREAM (WORKING TITLE)” renders these questions visible.
