Daniel Ben-Hur - A-Z
Between signs and meanings
The work of the Israelian artist Daniel Ben-hur bases on the use of letters and numbers and deals with their conetxtual, cultural historical and religious dimensions. From a diversity of scripts and numerical systems he develops not only readable and defining codes in the conventional sense; he also freely disposes of them in such a way that the signs seem to extend beyond their initial meanings, dissolving to form abstract planes and system of lines. This transition from concrete designation to free drawing, operating in a tension zone between definition and disguise, extends compellingly into almost all media levels to probe the complex dimensions of semiotics.
