Galerie Sherin Najjar is pleased to present new paintings and drawings by Andreas Grob.

The painter Andreas Grob works like a writer who is a foreigner in his own language. Resembling small narratives wrenched from a larger story, these pictorial riddles imply a secret code. Dependant on their form and colour – monochrome, pastel backgrounds of water green, sky blue, and ochre – his compositions emerge from his gesture of painting; coded sequences placed in a random, affected yet apparently carefree sequence. Subtle fictions play with the almost endless diversity of the emerging motifs, themselves leaning towards an urban, architectural theme, yet also inspired by nature and trees or even weapons, knives, vehicles or coloured landscapes.

Grob transforms artistic works into a language, inviting his viewers to decipher the painted stories in a process of co-authorship. Reading thus becomes creative, the arbiter of adventure, uncertainties and experience. The eyes and spirit of the viewer are invited to commune with the impressions he provides.

Andreas Grob was born 1965 in Stuttgart, he lives and works in Berlin.
