To celebrate our fourth anniversary, we are pleased to announce the opening on 14 February of the group exhibition, Beste Aussichten, with new works by Michael Joaquin Grey, Carlos Irijalba, Andreas Grob, Gonkar Gyatso, Michael Najjar and Mark Melvin.
Beste Aussichten (engl. Best Prospects) is more than just a celebration of the gallery’s anniversary, as it also offers a preview of our future plans. The end of March will mark the conclusion of our regular exhibition programme, allowing us to sharpen our focus on collaboration with selected artists and the brokerage of exclusive works of art.
Over the last four years, the gallery programme has been built up by our artists. The shared focus of their works is the closer examination of social themes around time, transformation and change. Michael Joaquin Grey’s bronze work, „Panta Rei (Simonetta Left and Right Rivers)“, was inspired by evolutionary processes and examines the fundamental elements of life and identity. Andreas Grob’s canvas work features perceptible but indecipherable motifs of urban life on a monochrome background which constantly generate new creations and individual narratives. For his collage, „Shangri La Play“, Gonkar Gyatso adds colourful stickers and brand logos – objects of media mass culture – to the figure of a seated Buddha. Carlos Irijalba’s photographic image, „Two Hundred Thousand Years and A Second“, references both the sealing of the landscape by human activity and the different dimensions of geological and human time. Michael Najjar’s work, „a.l.m.a.“, shows the world’s largest astronomical observatory. The Atacama Large Millimeter Array, installed on a plateau in Northern Chile at an altitude of 5,000 metres, comprises 66 high-precision antennae which will provide insights into the reckoning of time in the universe. Mark Melvin presents a new version of his „Time Piece (Bury Your Head in the Sand or Bury the Sand in Your Head)“ which features an old, modified station clock.
