The exhibition takes place in the framework of CULTURIA residency program in collaboration with LAGE EGAL – Pierre Granoux.
Cath Keay is a sculptor with a particular interest in unbuilt, utopian architectural projects. In Berlin she is researching schemes that have been proposed or imposed there during the last century. For this exhibition she has selected a quotation by Fritz von Unruh and created it in 3 dimensions using packing felt. The quotation translates as, ” Pile awesome impossibilities mountain high”, and was von Unruh’s contribution to the publication “Für das neue Deutschland” in 1919. The publication – a collection of statements by artists and intellectuals – was circulated during the elections to the Weimar Assembly.
Cath Keay has copied a font from an existing memorial in Berlin, but in contrast to materials normally used in such sculptural projects, the felt letters are transient and light, to remember a fleeting, utopian moment in history.
