Matthias Hesselbacher explores the different perceptions of reality in past, present and future. In the exhibition Synapsen, sirens named Berit, Gretchen, Luise or Paula, hidden in his paper collages are inviting the viewer to a deeper study to discover a complex work, influenced by different art from different cultural eras: Romans and Greek but also Gothic art, such as the sculptural work by Tillman Riemschneider, as well as politic speeches, music and literature. Matthias Hesselbacher further examines the influence and possible consequences of these human actions on the world we live in.
The painting shown in the entrance room is an Indian ink and crayon composition that could be the representation of a dark but dynamic universe. Behind it, in the second room, height collages are hung all together on one wall and reveal a multilayered mental world: in its construction, the exhibition shows how we can become what we are from the initial "Chaos", the "zero state," through learning and experiencing.
