"Lost" - First European exhibition of the young, Chinese artist Lily Yu at Direktorenhaus on Berlin Art Grid
Artists: lily yu
Genres: large-scale paintings

As the artistic concepts of Ai Weiwei - especially made for the public- recently have demonstrated, the topics individualism and gender still are the reason for protests directed against the governing Chinese regime.

To counter these „loud“ and provocative, artistic activities, we now want to show a more subtle way of artistic reflection and criticism of the Chinese society and present – for the first time in Europe – the exhibition of the young, Chinese artist Lily Yu at the Berlin based Direktorenhaus from the 4th to the 20th of August.

There are very few independent female artists working in China. Against this background, the large-format paintings of Lily Yu’s new series “Lost” have the effect of an act of defiance, exploring issues that are difficult to raise in China especially as a female artist.

Despite the male dominated tradition of her country of origin, Lily Yu is working intensively on the gender topic and the conflict between individual and collective identity. The results are extreme large-format paintings that already by their size, have a fascinating effect on the viewer.

On August the 19th, from 5p, the artist Lily Yu will personally be present at Direktorenhaus to give interviews among others. This also will be celebrated in combination with a wine tasting as well as other delicacies.
