Martina Mrongovius creates holograms of urban adventures and strange architectural encounters. Her holographic works are a form of urban narrative - compositions of multiple perspectives and intertwined dynamics. Using hundreds of photographs these scenes are structured by emotive and imaginative forces. The installations she creates resonate with the poetics of experience captured in the holographic images.
Her installations play on the viewers’ movement to unweave these images into the viewing experience.

In this artist talk Mrongovius describes the process of creating holographic images and her way using holography to animate scenes and create multiple perspective views. By creating dynamic scenes that the viewer explores through their movement a different kind of
impression emerges. The perspective of these works establish an extended embodied experience, of looking through a holographic window. Mrongovius' holograms playfully consider how holography offers a different way of visual representation and thinking about perspective.
about the artist //
Martina Mrongovius is the director at the Center of the Holographic Arts, New York and an assistant professor of holography and light-art at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne. As well as creating her own artwork she has collaborated with Banditfox (since 2000), Flux Factory
(since 2004) and Swimming Cities (since 2010). Her PhD about movement in relation to holographic images was completed in 2011 through the Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory, RMIT University,
Melbourne.
