Between June 23-25, 2017 SomoS presents the group exhibition “Neues Dasein” in which four international artists set up immersive performative installations to explore concepts surrounding the self, human interaction and simulation.

Through (virtual) reality simulations, the “Neues Dasein” group show celebrates the confusion and ennui of the fast-paced contemporary life. The presented works bring into spotlight some of the effects of an accelerating technological age and its unforeseen subsequent results.

Neues Dasein reflects a pervasive culture of digital isolation, boredom and overstimulation. The show analyzes the emotional impacts of the “Neues Dasein” (new existence) through distraction, human interaction and personal reflection.

The exhibition takes place in the context of the 48 Stunden Neukölln Festival 2017.

Participating Artists:

Isabel Ramos (UK) Visual artist Isabel Ramos works in a multi-disciplinary way, employing and combining mediums such as video, New-Media, VR, participatory performance, choreography and installation. Ramos uses the body to explore its position and traces in our increasingly accelerating technological age.

Anais Hazo (FR/USA) Anaïs Hazo was born 1989 in Paris; she lives and works between Paris and New-York. A multidisciplinary artist, her techniques are drawing, photography, installation and prints. She publishes Fine Art prints and books; and works as freelance art director, fashion stylist, editor and lifestyle and food consultant.

Miriam van Beurden (NL) With a seemingly scientific approach, Miriam van Beurden observes the behavior of people, alone and in groups. Her methodical approach, neutral framing of the subject and using only a single take are distinctive elements of her video work. Miriam van Beurden holds a Bachelor of Design (Photography) from AKV|St.Joost (the Netherlands).

Kalle Kuikkaniemi (FIN) Working from a subjective point of view, Kalle Kuikkaniemi studies the behavior of people in urban environments based on the marks they leave behind them, such as texts, images and trash. Kalle Kuikkaniemi holds a Bachelor of Design (Photography) from AKV|St.Joost (the Netherlands) and a Bachelor of Culture and Arts from TAMK University of Applied Sciences, School of Art & Media (Finland).
