Richard Wright
Year-long exhibition 15.02.2014 – 14.02.2015
“Nine Chains To The Moon” (Chapter 1)
Opening: Friday, 14.02.2014, 6–9 pm
From 14th of February 2014, BQ presents a year-long exhibition with Richard Wright. During this extended exhibition, the artist will be given the opportunity to visualise the process of his creative work in the form of an exhibition. With the different alterations the artist will undertake – such as working over, adding, reducing or deleting –, the procedural character and the significance of time as a material in Richard Wright’s works is highlighted.
The exhibition is made up of three parts, each of which will be based on what remains of the previous one. Like a chapter of a book, every new part will not only add something to the already existing exhibition, but will continue it in a reflective and interpretive way. After twelve months, a complex organic whole will have emerged from the interspaces between the montage of the chapters. Some of the installations will also include works by other artists.
The first chapter “Nine Chains To The Moon” picks up the title of a book written in 1938 by R. Buckminster Fuller which imagines the distance between the earth and the moon as the population of the world standing on each others shoulders reaching there and back to the moon nine times.
The second chapter of this project will open with the Berlin Gallery Weekend in early May. At the same time, BQ will inaugurate the exhibition space “Upstairs” in a flat in the rear annex of the gallery. During Richard Wright’s year-long project, further exhibitions and projects will be presented “Upstairs”.
