SMAC is pleased to present media artist Carla Chan’s first solo exhibition in Berlin, TO OUTLAND. Showcasing Chan’s recent works in the last five years, the exhibition discusses digital manipulation of the erratic forms in nature, showcasing media artworks that mistreat and misplace visual elements of natural scenery, such as texture, scale and movement of landscapes, in order to portray an immersive journey through an alien land.

Responding heavily to the humanization in postdigitalism, Carla’s work associates the abstractness in the digital with the sense of bodily space. The worlds in the artworks embrace the audience by creating an ever-changing state, blurring the boundaries between natural and cultivated, random and ordered.

Known for her participation in international art projects, including the EU project European Mobile Dome Lab for Artistic Research (E/M/D/L), Carla Chan is a young media artist from Hong Kong, currently based in Berlin. Her works have been extensively shown worldwide, including IX Symposium, Société des Arts Technologiques, Montréal, Canada 2015; CYNETART Festival, Dresden, Germany 2013-14; Top 3 Videos in OK Video - 6th Jakarta International Video Festival, Indonesia 2013; Milwaukee Underground Film Festival, USA 2013; The 26th Stuttgarter Filmwinter, Wilhelmspalais, Stuttgart, Germany 2013; Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards 2012.
