Tomer Dahan has choreographed a work called Intifada for the gallery Showroom Berliini in Berlin, Germany. The performance is danced by four dancers (Ruben Mendo Mbese, Kremser, Kalbarczyk and Dahan) and the music and visuals are provided by Ariel Angel.
The performance deals with the human desire and need of freedom and independence. We rebel when these desires are deprived from us.
As Tomer Dahan is strongly against violence and war, against harming innocent civilians, he rebels through his art and provides those whose freedom... See More is strongly against violence and war, against harming innocent civilians, he rebels through his art and provides those whose freedom and independence is deprived a voice. Tomer feels that as an Israelian he lives in an environment of racism. He has been discriminated himself, but he feels strongly about the racism his Arab friends face just because of their origin.
Through his art Tomer seeks to fight against this injustice and has, for example, rejected to join the army, which is not usual in Israel, a society that lives with fear and distortion. The themes of Tomer Dahan's art are not easy or politically correct in Israel and therefore his some of his work has been censored in his home country.
A critic writes about one of Tomer Dahan's choreographs, The promised Land
"Dahan’s piece , ‘The Promised Land’ , was vague. It’s a trio for a female performer (Lola Irgo) and two male performers (Iskias & Dahan). They wear a black cotton cloth covering their faces and spray Hebrew words on two white banners, until finally, they eat lettuce from a bowl. While the movement of the female (Irgo) was very curious and indicative of her good capability, the male dancers, which are also endowed with good skills, were placed in a thankless role."
Tomer Dahan is a dancer, choreographer, performance artist and a director of ceremonies. He has graduated from the Academy of Music and Dance and has danced in the Jerusalem Ballet, Dance Theatre Jerusalem, Contemporary Dance of Sally Anne Friedland and Atlantic City Ballet in the US. He has danced in productions of the Camery Theatre, Habima, the Israeli Opera and has participated in various festivals and worked with various choreographers in Israel.
In recent years Tomer has worked outdoors and choreographed site-specific performances. These pieces are ritualistic, according to Tomer. In his work Tomer explores such topics as sacred, social taboos, nationalism, and anti-racism, peace and love.
