The art of Toshifumi Hirose who was born 1971 in Gifu, Japan, explores the relationship of architecture and the human being in its mostly urban environment. He is known for his sculptures which have the appearance of three dimensional jigsaw puzzles.
Most recently the artist has focused on woodcutting as a medium to express his ideas. He says: "Technically, woodcutting corresponds well to the way I am working because this technique allows me to work in segments similar to the use of prefabricated elements in architecture and sculpture. I combine elements from different situations. Depending on the combination a new form and custom will emerge, an extended network of relationships comes into existence. I want to create a snapshot of the situation, which is relevant for me, the future of which remains open to the observer, creating common situations."
The exhibition in Werkstattgalerie Alexandra Erlhoff will show Toshifumi´s woodcuts which he has created over the last two years.
